Back to the EPD-Online overview
An EPD requires product information, LCA results and collaboration between several contributors. EPD-Online provides a shared workspace for these tasks. Explore the features that support preparing, editing and submitting your declaration.
Create an EPD for your product
When creating an EPD, you assign your project to a product category and the relevant PCR basis. You enter the declaration’s properties, such as its name, language and declaration owner. These details provide the starting point for editing the EPD.
Bring product information and LCA results together
In EPD-Online, you edit your declaration’s content, from the product description and technical information to the life cycle assessment results. Text and tables are maintained within the EPD, bringing contributions from your company and consultants together in a shared document.
Attach background reports and supporting evidence
An EPD also requires documents that explain and substantiate its information. You can attach a background report, additional evidence and certificates to the EPD. This keeps supporting documents associated with the relevant project and available in context throughout the subsequent process.
Collaborate with colleagues and consultants
Multiple contributors can work on an EPD. Permissions control access to the project, allowing manufacturers and appointed specialists to work with a shared set of data. Available editing actions depend on the user’s permissions and the EPD’s current status.

Use an existing EPD as a starting point
Authorised users can copy an existing EPD and adapt its content for a further project. This is useful when information needs to be reused. Check that the product description, LCA results and supporting evidence are appropriate for the new project. Copying an EPD does not replace this technical review.
Add further language versions
EPD-Online supports creating additional language versions of an EPD, helping you prepare the declaration for different audiences. Translated content must remain technically consistent with the original, so each new language version needs careful review before use.
Review your EPD in the PDF preview
The PDF preview shows how your content will appear in the EPD document. Use it to review text, tables and presentation together. The consistent layout supports a uniform document structure. Previewing helps you prepare the document but does not replace independent verification.
Submit your EPD for verification
Once your EPD and the required supporting documents are ready, you submit them to IBU through EPD-Online. IBU assigns an independent verifier. Questions raised during verification may require revisions. Following successful verification and approval, IBU can publish the EPD.

Make EPD data available for digital use
Alongside the EPD document, the platform supports providing machine-readable EPD data for further use, such as building life cycle assessments. Other databases have their own acceptance requirements, so publication of an EPD does not mean it will immediately appear in every database.

Prepare the life cycle assessment outside the platform
EPD-Online supports editing and processing your EPD. Qualified specialists carry out the life cycle assessment beforehand using suitable LCA software. Plan data collection and LCA work as separate steps. The completed results then provide the basis for your entries in EPD-Online.
