After publication, your EPD remains a product document that needs maintenance. Plan for both expiry and changes during its validity.
Check the actual expiry date
Validity is generally five years. For certain derived declarations, the underlying EPD’s term may determine validity. Use the date shown in the document and also check its current publication status.
Prepare renewal in advance
Assign an owner and set an internal review date before expiry. With your LCA specialist, review changes in the product, production, data and rules. Do not rely solely on a possible automatic reminder.
Reuse existing documents appropriately
Existing reports and data can help you get started but need checking for currency. The changes made and applicable rules determine whether new calculations and further review are required.
Communicate clearly after expiry
A PDF remaining available is not automatically still valid. Identify historical versions internally and update customer links after a successor is published. Discuss any gap in validity openly with the relevant contacts.
