The path to an EPD combines company data collection, LCA work, document preparation and independent verification. This sequence helps you plan the handovers between those tasks.

1. Define scope and rules

Define products, sites and target markets. Check eligibility and PCR. Commission specialist work and appoint an internal project lead. The outcome of this phase is an agreed scope.

2. Collect data and carry out the LCA

Collect the agreed data, document its origin and resolve gaps. Your LCA specialist prepares the assessment and documents the calculations. Reliable results provide the basis for EPD content.

3. Complete the EPD and supporting documents

Create the EPD in EPD-Online and add text, tables and evidence. Check that the background report and EPD reflect the same version. Use the preview for your final internal review.

4. Submit and address questions

The person responsible for the project submits the EPD for paid verification. An assigned independent verifier reviews the documents. Address questions traceably and resubmit revised content through the appropriate process.

5. Complete approval and publication

Successful verification is followed by final approval. Review the version presented to you and address any remaining requirements. The EPD is published only once IBU completes this stage; use and maintenance then follow.
