Product Category Rules, or PCR, define requirements for EPDs in a product group. Select them at the beginning of the project because they affect both calculations and document content.
PCR Part A and Part B
Part A sets cross-cutting requirements for the LCA and background report. Part B specifies content for the product group. Consider both parts alongside the other applicable programme documents.
Find the applicable rules
PCR documents are available in EPD-Online. Compare their scope with your product and its use. Discuss borderline cases with your LCA specialist and IBU. Do not select a merely similar category simply to create the project sooner.
Record the applicable version
Record the applicable versions and any transition arrangements. Recheck them after lengthy pauses and before later updates. The date of an old EPD does not establish the rules for a new project.
When no suitable PCR exists
Send IBU a short product description, intended use and technical documents. The office will discuss how to address the missing product rule. Allow for this coordination in your schedule.
