More and more companies from the construction industry are committed to achieving a higher level of sustainability. This is reflected in the fact that 26 new members joined the Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (IBU) in the first quarter of 2024.

The IBU is one of the leading international programme operators for Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in the construction industry and Europe’s leading organization for declaring construction products in accordance with the European standard EN 15804. Now with 316 members, the IBU is the largest European association of manufacturers in the building materials industry committed to sustainable construction.

The enormously positive development is also reflected in other areas of the association. In the first three months, the use of IBU EPDs is at a record level for the fifth year in a row with around 145,000 downloads.

“The development in recent months has been extremely pleasing,” says Florian Pronold, Managing Director of IBU. As one of the leading program operators for environmental product declarations in the construction industry, the IBU laid the foundations for including the ecological aspect in the sustainability assessment of buildings over 40 years ago. Thanks to its practical, scientific and political commitment, the IBU has established an industry standard that is recognized in all areas of the construction industry. All IBU EPDs are based on international standards and are verified by independent third parties.
