The Institut Bauen und Umwelt e. V. (IBU) and the DIN Group have signed an agreement to work more closely together. The aim of the collaboration is to make environmental product information even more consistent, comparable and reliable in future.

Reliable environmental information is becoming increasingly important for businesses. It forms an important basis for public tenders, sustainability requirements in supply chains and new regulatory requirements. At the same time, there is a growing need for uniform and reliable data that can be used equally by all market players.

With this agreement, the IBU and the DIN Group are sending a joint signal for greater quality, comparability and interoperability of product-related environmental information. By pooling their respective expertise, the partners aim to provide environmental information in an even more consistent and practical manner in future, reduce duplication of effort for companies and further strengthen compatibility with national, European and international requirements.

For the IBU, this cooperation represents an important step. As the programme operator for Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in the construction products sector, we have built up unique expertise over decades. We are bringing this experience to the collaboration – with the aim of actively helping to shape the further development of robust environmental product information and providing guidance beyond the construction products sector.

At the same time, the agreement strengthens the IBU’s role as a benchmark for robust environmental product information – both within and beyond the construction products sector.

The cooperation agreement was signed by Dr Martina Bender, Managing Director of the IBU, and Hans Peters, Chairman of the IBU’s Executive Board, as well as by Daniel Schmidt, Member of the DIN Executive Board, and Marion Winkenbach, Managing Director of DIN Media GmbH.

The IBU will keep its members regularly informed about further activities and developments within the framework of this collaboration.
