Webinar with Ecochain: EPDs in practice

Loading Events

On 22 January, the Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (IBU) and Ecochain will be hosting a joint live webinar on the practical use of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), running from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (CET).

The event will begin with a short, practical workshop led by Ecochain. Drawing on 15 years’ experience of implementing LCA solutions and EPDs in the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Germany, Ecochain will demonstrate how industrial manufacturers can transform scattered product data into high-quality, verifiable EPDs that stakeholders can trust, in a scalable and efficient manner.

The workshop will cover everything from collecting product data and building a solid LCA foundation, to calculating LCAs that stand up to critical scrutiny and publishing with the IBU. Emma Thunnissen (Education Lead at Ecochain Technologies) will explain what each step involves, where teams typically encounter difficulties, and how LCA automation can simplify the process.

Building on this, Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (IBU) will provide a comprehensive overview of the EPD process from the programme holder’s perspective. Peter Hackmann (Head of Programme and Senior Consultant at IBU) will explain IBU’s role as an independent programme authority, the EPD creation and verification process, and the formal and content requirements for a publishable EPD. The different publication formats available and how they are used in practice will also be highlighted.

The application-specific classification of EPDs will also be discussed, for example in the context of building life cycle assessments and certification systems such as DGNB and QNG. Regulatory requirements will also be covered, particularly in connection with the Construction Products Regulation.
