From 13 to 17 January, Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (IBU) successfully presented itself at BAU 2025 in Munich. The stand provided a platform for exchanging ideas and information on environmental product declarations (EPDs) and sustainable construction.
The focus was on topics such as verified life cycle assessment data as a basis for sustainable construction, the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), digitalisation and innovations, resource efficiency and the circular economy. These topics were very well received by trade visitors and experts.
A particular highlight was the presentation of a total of 63 EPDs to members in eleven different exhibition halls at 25 award ceremonies. This underscores the increasing importance of EPDs in the construction industry.
IBU also played an active role in the stage presence at BAU. The Recycled Content Declaration was presented as part of the DGNB pitch. The panel discussion ‘From EPD to Building Life Cycle Assessment’ highlighted the importance of EPDs for holistic life cycle assessments.
At the IBU stand, numerous visitors were able to find out more about the creation, application and use of data from EPDs, as well as about the work of IBU. Many IBU members took the opportunity for personal discussions with the team at the office and a direct exchange on current developments. In addition, a wide range of IBU network partners – from the ECO Platform to the IBU Advisory Board, verifiers and LCA service providers – came to the IBU stand to discuss new perspectives and collaborations.
A special moment was the visit of Minister of Construction Klara Geywitz to the IBU stand. This symbolic visit underscored the relevance of sustainable construction and the visibility of IBU at the trade fair as a point of contact for reliable environmental information on construction products.
The BAU 2025 trade fair demonstrated the growing interest in sustainable building products and valid life cycle assessment data. This became clear from the numerous high-quality discussions and enquiries addressed to IBU. With its EPDs, IBU is making an important contribution to transparency and further development in the construction industry, particularly in view of the requirements of the new Construction Products Regulation and the advancing digitalisation of EPD and life cycle assessment data.
