IBU is reacting to the growing market demand for specific CO2 information and is expanding its services to include Product Carbon Footprint (PCF). This new offer enables declaration holders to now additionally identify their products in terms of their CO2 footprint based on verified environmental product declarations (EPDs).
IBU has always been a byword for comprehensive life cycle assessment data that provides a holistic view of the environmental impacts of construction products. It is important to emphasise that sustainability encompasses much more than just CO2 emissions. However, the focus on Product Carbon Footprint offers an additional, specific level of consideration in the context of climate protection, which is becoming increasingly important in the industry.
Florian Pronold, Managing Director of the IBU, emphasises the importance of this new offering: ‘Anyone who advertises with environmental claims should also be able to substantiate them. Our new PCF service provides a reliable basis for this and effectively guards against greenwashing.’ The introduction of the Product Carbon Footprint according to ISO 14067 ensures that declaration owners can respond to market demand while emphasising the quality and informative value of their EPDs. The PCF data are based on the proven and transparent data of the EPDs and thus guarantee a well-founded and reliable CO2 statement. Therefore, the respective EPD is directly indicated in each PCF.
This approach enables IBU to remain true to its commitment to providing comprehensive and valid environmental data while also helping the industry to meet the increasing demand for specific environmental and sustainability information.
Further details on the new PCF offering and the associated advantages for declaration owners are published on the IBU website.
