Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (IBU), a leading programme operator for environmental product declarations (EPDs), will be represented at BAU in Munich from 13 to 17 January 2025. The focus will be on the central role of EPDs for sustainable construction and their growing importance due to the new requirements of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), but also on the possibilities and solutions offered by digitalization.

Focus at the IBU stand: EPDs in the spotlight

  1. Verified life cycle assessment data as the basis for sustainable construction:
  2. Even with the introduction of mandatory environmental data through the CPR, EPDs remain a central source of information for ecological assessments in the construction industry. IBU shows how EPDs serve as a standardized and independently verified basis for transparency and sustainability, thereby ensuring the highest level of reliability. IBU provides information on the basics of EPD creation and offers tips for planners on what to consider when using EPDs appropriately.
  3. Guide to the Construction Products Regulation: Get a clear overview of the new legal requirements and IBU’s role as an implementation partner. IBU provides an outlook on how it is preparing for the new legal requirements and what manufacturers can expect in the coming years.
  4. Digitization and innovation:
  5. Find out how IBU supports companies in providing the mandatory environmental data efficiently and digitally. From automated life cycle assessment and EPD creation to the digital EPD database IBU.Data and integration in BIM tools – IBU is committed to innovative solutions for the construction products industry.
  6. Resource efficiency and circular economy:
  7. In addition to the information required by the standard in an EPD, IBU also provides further information on resource efficiency and circularity, for example by developing reuse calculation rules to promote and properly reflect the reuse of materials. As an additional service from the EPD data, IBU also presents its Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), which supports manufacturers in showing their product CO2 balance.

The IBU will once again use the trade fair as an opportunity to present manufacturers with new, independently verified EPDs, which are particularly important as a data basis for building life cycle assessments and certification systems for sustainable construction. The trade fair presence will be complemented by specialist lectures and pitches highlighting the latest developments in EPDs and sustainable construction.

With nbau. Nachhaltig Bauen (Verlag Ernst & Sohn), a competent partner will also be represented as a co-exhibitor at the IBU stand. The magazine accompanies the transformation of the construction and real estate industry towards sustainable construction. Across the entire spectrum, from urban and spatial planning, architecture, structural engineering, climate engineering and all other specialist planning disciplines, to construction and operation. This collaboration at the trade fair underlines the common mission of further promoting sustainability in the construction industry.
