Comprehensive Information for IBU Members at the 2017 Annual General Meeting
At this year’s General Meeting, participants were offered a morning programme that covered a wide variety of topics and information concerning national and, in particular, international developments in sustainable building.
In his greeting, Dr Stefan Schulze-Hausmann, Chairman of the German Sustainability Foundation, expressed his gratitude to the IBU for its dedication to the German Sustainability Award through its partnership in the area of the Special Prize for Resource Efficiency. He also revealed the names of this year’s six nominees, among whom is IBU member RINN Beton- und Naturstein GmbH & Co. KG.
To kick off the presentations, Dr Gerhard Scheuermann provided insight into current developments resulting from the ECJ ruling prohibiting use of the German Mark of Conformity (‘Ü‑Zeichen’) for the German construction industry.
Professor Dr Natalie Eßig from the Munich University of Applied Sciences followed, with an introduction to use of the BNK System for assessing sustainability in residential construction, providing insight into the assessment criteria used by the system as well as the support options it offers for system users.
In her presentation, Professor Dr Petra von Both from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology introduced an on-going research project in which EPDs have been linked with BIM (Building Information Modelling) and explained the potential that this holds for achieving sustainable planning.
EPDs were also the focus of the final presentation, given by Dr Eva Schmincke, convenor of the CEN/TC 350 WG III. In her presentation, ‘Update on the EPD and PEF’, she reported on the current status of the mandate for revising the EN 15804 EPD standard.
